Jun 2nd, 2010 by newsroom
Skyhook wireless, a Stage1Ventures portfolio company, announced that four new apps launching this week, including a music and wine app, use geolocation services based on Skyhook’s software-development kit, "Local Faves".
Skyhook also has partnered with PortAbout’s AppMakr, and self-service app creation and publishing service that has powered more than 6,200 apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
According to Ted Morgan, President of Skyhook Wireless, Skyhook’s location engine handles 300 million requests for location a day through more than 100 million mobile devices. The company’s technology is licensed by Apple for the iPhone. Skyhook has also replaced Google as the provider of enhanced location services for Motorola’s Android-based devices, and Mr. Morgan has indicated that another major handset maker will be deploying Skyhook’s technology in the coming weeks.
